To all descendants of
William McDonald
1790 – 1856

WILLIAM McDONALD (1790 – 1856)  Born in Arden, WV, Berkeley County.  On April 1st, 1824, he purchased 60 acres from his parents for $1000.  He lived here with his family until the mid 1830’s when it was sold to Jacob Poisal.  In the same year he and his wife purchased a 153 acre tract of land from Stephen Mayer.  He built a home on it and lived there until death.  This was known as “the old home place” and later as “Glencoe”.  It was the home of his grandson Ernest F. McDonald and now the home of his great, great, great grandson Charles William McDonald.  The old house is still in use as part of their home. His descendents have a reunion at Glencoe each year on the first Sunday in July.
